KMJ Book Reveals would like to thank our troops for their service and honor those who have passed and thank them for all that they have done for our country!
Hey ya'll,
So I thought what better way to take remembrance than by reading about how Memorial Day came about. As most of us know Memorial Day is an American holiday in which we honor men and women who have died in the U.S. military as well as those who are continuing their service.
I rate this novel 5 stars! When I read this novel two years ago I enjoyed how much it revealed about the history of America. As each chapter went by I was bombarded by so many interesting facts about not just our military, but also the shaping of our music and economy. This novel is not a light read so I suggest that you read a few pages a day and take a few notes so you can receive the knowledge Halberstam has placed in his book. I felt that this novel was well executed and worth the read due to how explicit it is in detailing the United States history during the time period of the fifties.

Now a major motion picture!
In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent.
As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.
I am not a person who is into historical fiction that much, but when I read the back of this book it made me want to read it! This novel is perfect for those of us that can both read the book and watch the movie while placing no judgement on either side. I love how author Hillenbrand is telling us a story about someone else's life and executes it as well as she does. This novel is definitely worth the read because it is compelling, refreshing, and makes you have a deeper understanding of what it means to be alive.
Make sure you all put this on your to read list!
