Author Spotlight #6 Heather Kirchhoff

Hey ya'll,
So I had the wonderful chance of doing an Author Spotlight for the amazing Heather Kirchhoff. Before I introduce you all to her work take a look at a few questions I asked her.

Why do you like to write?

-I really enjoy writing. I love to help make awareness over certain things and to just sit down and write. I enjoy some of the emotions my characters feel, depending on what it is.

Why did you become an author?

-I became an author because I wanted to make others feel how I feel when reading. I wanted to make them feel all sorts of emotions and fall in love with my characters.

What makes you different from the rest?

-I'm wanting to do all kinds of genres. I don't want to stay in just one.

Biography:

Heather Kirchhoff lives in a small town in Missouri with her three parents, siblings, a dog, and three cats. She became a bookworm back in sixth grade when her teacher suggested the Phantom Stallion series by Terri Farley and instantly fell in love. She loves reading paranormal stories, plus some love ones here and there. Honestly, she’ll read anything as long as it’s good. Writing is her passion. Heather loves animals; she’s heartbroken that not all of them have loving homes. When she isn’t writing, Heather is doing odd jobs, reading, editing, promoting, taking walks, or spending time with her boyfriend and animals/family. Heather is currently a senior in high school.

My Novel:

Lightning Strike (Magic #3) Summary:

Meagan Nevels has a vision that sends her into a frenzy, having to save a human’s life. A human’s soul from destruction. But she finds it harder than anticipated to leave her new boyfriend. Also when Meagan starts having a horrible dream several times she starts to suspect the worst. Now she’s frantic in both her search for the human’s soul and answers about her dreams. But, of course, she knows she can only get one--and Meagan quickly realizes she can’t put that off for long. Now with time running out, she’s forced to make rash decisions, hurting those she loves along the way.

EyeCandy Disappoints?!

Hey ya'll,
So as you know from my previous blog postings (Catch the links at the bottom of post)  MTV debuted an original series called Eye Candy which is based on the novels of the same name by teen horror author R.L.Stine.

When I saw the finale my mouth kept dropping to the floor. There were so many twists and turns that I was for the first time clueless to what was going to happen.

Lindy Sampson (Played by Victoria Justice) was finally captured by her stalker who happened to be one of her flirtual dates on the show. It was so insane because the date that turned out to be her stalker/the killer I never would have thought capable of doing the things that he had done.

Another thing I found to be unbelievable was how close to death all the main characters seemed to be in this show. Since I had grown to like these characters some including Detective Tommy Carrigan (Played by Casey Deidrick) and Sophia Preston (Played by Kiersey Clemons) it was hard to imagine their storylines being possibly cut for the next season.

However, all in all Eye Candy is a great show! It is fun, frightening, and fierce all at once. Everything is so well executed that to miss one episode would throw you off. I want to give you more. I probably should give you more, but I'd hate to spoil those of you who have yet to see the show. So take my word for it and give it a look.

Have you seen Eye Candy? What is your favorite episode? Are you a fan of Victoria Justice? Why? Tell me! I want to know what you think <3 Until Next Time :*

#Insurgent?!

Hey ya'll,
So I have been waiting a while to post this review up for the movie Insurgent which is the sequel to the movie Divergent which has the same name as its book series written by Veronica Roth. Literally from start to finish I was captivated by the Insurgent film, but the person who really made my eyes stay glued to the movie screen was Tris Prior (Played by Shailene Woodley).

I was fascinated by how mature and direct this "new" Tris had appeared to be. She was confident, fearful, and witty all at the same time. There was no dull moment in this film.

What I enjoyed even more was how dynamic and snarky Kate Winslet was in portraying the character Jeanine Mathews. Winslet aggravated me by how blind and treacherous her character was throughout the entire film, but I liked it. There seemed to be no end to her evil ways and it made me even more on edge about what was to come at the end of the movie.

I'm not one to point out scene stealers, but if I had to pick out one for Insurgent it would have to be Mekhi Phifer in his role as Max. There was this really epic scene ( at-least what I thought was epic) where Max and his seemingly good "friend" Eric Colter (Played by Jai Courtney) get into this major argument where Max is finally able to let his voice be heard.

However, don't let that fool you! Though Max may seem to have a heart his loyalty will always be with Jeanine Mathews at the end of the day.

Summit Entertainment in my opinion has assembled a great cast mixed with new and old faces. I appreciate seeing so much diversity in this film. There really is something for everybody in this movie whether you want drama, a love-story, action and adventure. You get all that and more because of how well executed this film was.

Veronica Roth's vision had came to life in the first installment, but because of the second installment of the Divergent Series we all are finally seeing this movie in color.

Check it out in theaters now!!! You won't be disappointed :)
Did you already see it? Then tell me what were your favorite moments from the film. Did you hate it? Why? I want to know your thoughts! Until Next Time! :*

Excerpt:
My head is still pounding when my eyes flutter open the next day. My brain is throbbing inside my skull and I punch the pillow underneath me, scaring Jinx out of his slumber. He meows in protest before hopping off the bed. Looking around, I’m in my bed. How did I get here? I groan in pain as I prop my pillows up and lean my head back against them. It’s then that I feel the eyes on me. Tilting my head straight again, I glance out my window. My eyes lock with those big brown eyes of Jared’s across the way. He looks down to his phone and back up again. My phone chimes with an incoming text.
“UGHHH!” I moan, blindly reaching for it. It slips a few times before I grasp it between my fingers and look down to read.
How are you feeling? Closing one eye, I text back, Like someone ran over me with a truck, then backed up and ran me over again.
Lowering my phone, I watch as he smiles from my text and disappears from view. I’m trying to piece last night back together; it’s like a fragmented mirror that has shattered all over the corners of my mind. I remember laughing with Ro about her sexual conquests and then I remember red and blue lights and… Jared. Starting to feel hot, I throw the covers off of me and lay like a starfish, trying to get my mind to focus. Glancing down, I notice I’m wearing my pajamas. Before I can process any further, the door to my room creaks open. Jared walks in with a cup of water and a closed fist.
“How did you get in?!” I yelp, trying to sit up in bed, and pulling the covers back over my braless tank top. “I left the back door open when I left last night,” he informs me as he opens his fist to show me he brought a hand full of Advil.
“You brought me home last night?” I rub my head before reaching for the pills and water.
“Yup, after you called me to pick you up from the police station.”
“I WAS WHERE?!” I scream as water comes spraying out of my mouth.
“Police station. Apparently, you popped a guy in the face.” He smirks. I squint my eyes, vaguely remembering the heavyset guy that tried grabbing my ass in front of the bar.
“Whoa!” I have to lean my head back against my pillows when the information begins to become too much for me. “If you took me home, how did I get into pajamas?!”
The smile that crosses Jared’s face is a mixture of a blush and a sly smirk that makes my insides twist with anticipation and excitement. “Jared…”
“That… you did on your own. I had nothing to do with that!” He holds his hands up in surrender. “What? I just stripped in front of you!”
“Well, once you got your shirt off, there was really no stopping you…” he teases and my eyes widen in embarrassment.
“Oh my God!” I slump down, pulling the covers back up to my face. “Did we… ya know…” I mutter, completely mortified now.
“Uh, that would be a no.”
 “Oh, thank God!” I sigh.
“Thanks a lot!” He comes to his feet now, turning to look out the window.
“Not like that, it’s just … I don’t like to do things I’m not conscious for.”
“Yea, completely plastered girls that get arrested and throw up in bushes are really sexy!” His voice drips with sarcasm.
“I threw up?!” This just gets better and better.
“Twice.” “Twice?” I’m mortified, staring at his amused face.
“Well, after the first time I thought maybe you needed something to eat.”
“Oh no…”
“Yeah… I’ve never seen someone eat a Big Mac that fast before…”
He stares at the wall as if remembering my weak moment.
“Oh my God!” I groan, throwing the covers over my entire body. I curl up in a fetal position, planning to never come out again. The room grows silent. It’s starting to get hard to breathe under the sheets when I feel the mattress by my feet cave slightly.
“Come on, it’s not that bad. We all have our moments.” He pats my feet through the sheets. “Just when I think I’ve reached rock bottom, things just seem to drops out from under me and I’m at an all new low!” I roll over, trying to pull the covers with me, but Jared’s weight prevents it. My head comes peeking out as I roll over, facing away from him.
“April, I think I just determined your major.”
“What?” I curiously twist to look at him again.
“Drama. You’re such an actress. Now, put your big girl panties on and get up!”
I stare at him for a second; did he just say what I think he said? He waits about two seconds before getting up and opening a drawer to my dresser.
“Are they in here? Nope!” He closes it and opens another.
“STOP!” I scream, stumbling out of bed, horrified.
 “How ‘bout this one?”
 “Okay! Okay! I’m up!”
I slam the drawer closed just in time to save myself further embarrassment when Jared eyes my plain old undergarments. I sigh when the pounding in my head launches my stomach into action and I collapse onto the corner of the bed.
 “You okay?”
“I refuse to puke again!” I respond, taking another deep breath.
 “Jared…”
 “Yea…”
 “I could use some donuts.”
“Okay.” He pauses for a few seconds, looking down at his feet before adding, “I’ll be outside then.”
And he leaves me alone in my room.

Author Spotlight #4 Melissa Montavon

Hey ya'll,
So I had the amazing opportunity to Author Spotlight the incredible Melissa Montavon. Just like the rest of us she has had to overcome obstacles in her life. Take a look as she tells us a little bit about herself and her new novel, When The Lights Go Out My Innocence Is Lost.

Why do you like to write?

-I've always liked to write, even as a child. During my elementary days at the Catholic School I attended, I participated in the Young Authors program for at least three years and I still have all three books from it. I believe writing is one of the best ways to convey your feelings and emotions. I've always written poetry. Free verse is my favorite, I just let my thoughts and emotions flow. It's a stress reliever for me.

Why did you become an author?

-The main reason I became an author was to tell my story of surviving child sexual abuse, stalking, domestic violence and rapes. To be so vulnerable with my story and at the same time have the strength and the ability to overcome those horrendous acts even though there were many obstacles during my journey. I was able to survive and I survived for a reason. I took all that negative and made it into a positive and I choose to help others with my past.

What makes you different from the rest?

-I really can't say that I feel that anything in particular makes me different from the rest of the authors per se. I have ambition, goals and the immense sense of duty to tell my story in hopes to reach other victims to relate with them so they know they are not alone and they do have support. I also want to raise awareness of the situation of abuse, mainly child sexual abuse, since this is something that not many wish to speak about because it is a difficult subject to even imagine happening. However, it does. Every 10 seconds a child is abused, raped or killed in the U.S. These numbers are highly unacceptable. I write with passion, but I cannot say that not all authors are the same. So I don't put myself in a class different from the rest.

Biography

Melissa A. Montavon was raised in born and raised in Ohio. She was abandoned by her biological parents and was placed in a number of foster homes. She was adopted at the age of four along with one of her biological siblings. She has endured many traumatic experiences in life but survived those including bouts of depression as well as adventures down the wrong paths in life. She not only survived but she has thrived so that she can share her story in the hopes to inspire others and offer unprofessional advice and support to whomever seeks her out for it. She is the proud mother of three children, two dogs and a supportive wife. She has the love and support of her family constantly and is shown constant support from friends on social media. She has currently finished her first book which is where all her passion lies titled "When the Lights Go Out My Innocence is Lost', but she also is working on a book of poetry that she is collaborating with her daughter and wife on as well as a book of fiction. Melissa is an artist in all aspects; she can sketch, draw and paint on canvas as well as ceramics. She enjoys crafts and recently taught herself how to knit.

My Novel:

When the Lights Go Out My Innocence is Lost

Abandoned by her birth family, bounced around in foster homes, eventually adopted and sexually abused by her adoptive father are just the beginning of a number of traumatic events in this remarkable rue story of a girl who, in time, was able to overcome each obstacle, each setback, every struggle and traumatic event that life put in her path. Throughout the pandemonium in her life, she proves victorious. Through the multitude of struggles from domestic violence, stalking and rapes, she eventually makes sense of the cards she was dealt. By sharing her story she hopes to not only help herself but help others who hold a similar hand in this deck of life. For those loved ones of the many unfortunate victims, she hopes to offer a glimpse into the life of the victim. This story based on true events is a must read, heart pounding, tear-jerking memoir about terrifying abuse that took the innocence of a young girl that will keep you intrigued to the very end.

Indie Authors Are Clueless?

Hey ya'll,
So as I continue to examine the writing industry I notice that there are three types of authors. You have author number one who barely talks about their book and wonders why people act shock when he/she says that they have published a literary work.
And then there's author number two who goes the extra extra mile. Sometimes what they do is too much. I admit it's nice to be proud of your work, but over flashing your product makes you seem annoying and can cause people to be disgusted by it.
In addition, we have author number three who is a balance of the both.....sort of. They will flash their product for two days straight and then stop commenting on social media as if they slipped into a temporary coma only to resume posting ads about their books a week later.

So as a person on the outside looking in I am going to give these authors a word of advice to aid in their marketing:

Author #1: I understand that you may feel like no one is going to support you or that you are afraid of criticism, but just know that every entrepreneur has to roll the dice in order to be considered as being apart of the game. Who knows? You may have a ton of people willing to support you, but because you won't let them read your work it will hinder your growth as a successful author and improved writer. Sometimes we need the bad reviews to get the good reviews. Allowing others in may be the best for you emotionally because a few words of encouragement coming from the ones you love can turn things around entirely for you causing a break through.

OR

You may not be proud of your work, but in order for your work to be seen as the magnificent story that it is you have to see the beauty in it first. It's like being single and finally getting a boyfriend. Before you know it every guy is looking at you that wasn't looking at you before. You have to believe in yourself! If you don't then you'll be unfortunately stuck. So hang in there and smile with your head up :)

Author #2: Can I just say that I am so proud of you for loving your work and having your best foot forward! I know that you love your work and it is all that you want to talk about, but sometimes like the rules of make-up, less is more. And what I mean is that you may be totally confident in your work and love it, but the constant ads can bug others and lead to people blocking your posts. So instead learn to post about it in moderation. However, if you do want to post endlessly then make sure you post about the different dynamics of your book. Examples: Sales, giveaways, and promotional items that emphasize the theme of your book.

Author 3: You are the go-getting author that everyone loves to miss unfortunately. You spam until you can't spam anymore and then you stop only to return with an even greater vengeance. My advice to you is to figure out a time span that you can post appropriately and effectively. Your work is brilliant and let people see that by your graceful and concise posts. Each post grab the attention of every one by figuring out tasteful ways to showcase your book. We want to support you, but you need to understand that we will if we want to. So keep posting in a timely manner, but make it worth both of our time ;)

Comment below if you have any questions? Tell me! Which author are you? Do you agree with what I have to say or did I miss a few things? Let me know in the comment section below :) Until Next Time :*

Author Spotlight #3 Ann M. Noser

Hey ya'll,
So this Wednesday I will be covering the talented Ann M. Noser! Come take a look into her world, but first check out a few questions I had to ask her.

Why do you like to write?

-There are stories in my head just waiting to come out. Writing them down is almost a relief.

Why did you become an author?

-During my schooling, I wrote on and off for fun or to express myself. Now that I'm a "responsible" adult (job, marriage, kids, etc.) I didn't really write much until I started writing veterinary related articles for the local newspaper in an effort to educate people about proper litter box care, seasonal toxins to be wary of, the dangers of feeding chicken jerky treats from China, etc.

What makes you different from the rest?

-I don't always write in the same genre. Besides writing veterinary related articles, I also pen running articles, and Alzheimer's poetry/short stories.

Biography

My to-do list dictates that I try to cram 48 hours of living into a day instead of the usual 24. I have chosen a life filled with animals. I train for marathons with my dog, then go to work as a small animal veterinarian, and finish the day by tripping over my pets as I attempt to convince my two unruly children that YES, it really IS time for bed. But I can't wait until the house is quiet to write; I have to steal moments throughout the day. Ten minutes there, a half hour there, I live through my imagination.

Like all busy American mothers, I multi-task. I work out the plot holes during runs. Instead of meditating, I type madly during yoga stretches. I find inspiration in everyday things: A beautiful smile, a heartbreaking song, or a newspaper article on a political theory. For example, a long drive in the dark listening to an NPR program on the SMILEY FACE MURDERS theory made me ask so many questions that I wrote HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS to answer them to my satisfaction.

I'd love to have more time to write (and run, read, and sleep), but until I find Hermione Granger's time turner, I will juggle real life with the half written stories in my head. Main characters and plot lines intertwine in my cranium, and I need to let my writing weave the tales on paper so I can find out what happens next.

My Novel:

College sophomore Emma Roberts remembers her mother’s sage advice: “don’t sleep around, don’t burp in public, and don’t tell anyone you see ghosts”. But when charming Mike Carlson drowns in the campus river under her watch, Emma’s sheltered life shatters. Blamed for Mike’s death and haunted by nightmares, Emma turns to witchcraft and a mysterious Book of Shadows to bring him back. Under a Blood Moon, she lights candles, draws a pentacle on the campus bridge, and casts a spell. The invoked river rages up against her, but she escapes its fury.

As she stumbles back to the dorm, a stranger drags himself from the water and follows her home. And he isn't the only one. Instead of raising Mike, Emma assists the others she stole back from the dead a pre-med student who jumped off the bridge, a desperate victim determined to solve his own murder, and a frat boy Emma can’t stand…at first. More comfortable with the dead than the living, Emma delves deeper into the seductive Book of Shadows. Her powers grow, but witchcraft may not be enough to protect her against the vengeful river and the killers that feed it their victims. Inspired by the controversial Smiley Face Murders, HOW TO DATE DEAD GUYS will ignite the secret powers hidden deep within each of us.

One way How to Date Dead Guys is different is that it isn't the typical New Adult Contemporary Romance. Instead, HTDDG is a New Adult Urban Fantasy, combining paranormal events with a contemporary, real-life setting (University of Eau Claire-Wisconsin- in the picture below).

Author Spotlight #2 Michelle Irwin

Hey ya'll,
So I had the opportunity of spotlighting the fabulous Michelle Irwin. However, before we get this ball rolling take a look at a few questions I had to ask her. She is honest all the way through ;)

Why do you like to write?

-I write primarily because it's cheaper than therapy LOL. Seriously though, I've always loved English and reading. It was only natural that eventually that love built to a degree that it had to be released onto the page.

Why did you become an author?
-When I first started writing, I did it purely for fun. At first I just left the things I'd written unread by anyone but my closest friends in a folder filled with stories and teen-angst poems. Over time, the need to share with other people grew but the fear of putting it out there grew steadily alongside. Then I found fanfiction and the ability to write and post with a relative degree of anonymity. I loved it so much, taking beloved characters and playing with them like toys. Eventually, the sandbox of pre-cut characters just wasn't enough and the need to create something new and original just became overwhelming.

What makes you different from the rest?
-I think everyone is different from the rest. Just like no two readers read the same story, no two authors tell it. If there was a bank robbery and five authors witnessed it, each one would likely write a markedly different story about it. The one thing that I do like to do though is explore the unusual. Neither of my paranormal series have main characters who are shifters or vampires. Not that I would rule out writing them, but I want to wait until I can put my own unique spin on them.

Biography

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

My latest book is Besieged by Rain (Son of Rain book 1)

Clay Jacobs is a soldier. His family elite members of a secret organization are tasked with washing the world clean of all supernatural threats. Each new day brings the opportunity to fight at their side for a cause that he’s never doubted is just.‏

But Clay harbors a dangerous secret. The object of his teenage obsession was not human, and he failed to detect the truth until it was too late to destroy her. Even after she fled, he couldn't bring himself to report her. Now, the memory of the one who got away not only haunts him, it holds him captive and assaults him nightly. Unable to escape her hold on his mind, he races across the country to locate her and restore his sanity. Only instead of the monster he expects, he finds a woman who ensnares him with her charms. In her embrace, Clay dares to imagine a different life.

When his family discovers his betrayal, and threaten to destroy his dreams in the worst way imaginable, Clay has no option but to return to their side and convince them he’s back on the right track. Will he be able to play his part convincingly when the cause he’s spent most of his life fighting for is the very thing that will end his lover’s life?

Author Spotlight #1 Jas T. Ward

Hey ya'll,
So I had the privilege of Spotlighting Author Jas. T. Ward. However, before I give you all the details about this wonderful author take a look at a few questions I asked her to answer for you.

Why do you like to write?

-Writing has always been something I did. Whether it was to escape from a rough childhood, hide from being a victim of domestic violence or to get past the grief of losing a loved one to suicide, writing was my coping survival tool. It was my outlet, my haven and my salvation. I honestly don't think I could stop writing any more than I could stop breathing.

Why did you become an author?

-I was a ghost writer for years for some big names but it wasn't until some fans of my online writing encouraged me to publish a book that I became a published author. I am so grateful for that encouragement for it's been an incredible ride that I hope has no end in sight.

What makes you different from the rest?

-I don't know about different. As writers, I think we all share the same muse of creativity. But, I am known for making inventive twists and strong- emotion wrenches in my writing. I like to keep my readers guessing, just as I did when I wrote a story. There is nothing "normal" about my writing. I thrive on creating something different than what is out there and like creating my own beings, and worlds. Even my romances have dark, real life issues in them.

Biography

Jas T. Ward has always used writing as a necessary escape. With a past that is marred with a difficult childhood and domestic violence as well as being homeless as an adult, Ward lost her creative voice when she lost her soul mate to suicide. Finding that creative voice once again in writing in social media via blogs and creative writing groups, it was the fans that encouraged her to put her literary weavings to paper for them to enjoy. Ward lives in Texas with her dog and cat- Author Dog Pumkin and Writer Kitty Orleans and is the proud parent of three independent children.

When asked why she writes, Ward answers simply:
Reading saved me. It was my salvation and my haven. I now strive to pay that gift back by writing books that can give the same to others. And to keep myself sane.

Info - Last Book: Love's Bitter Harvest

Matt and Katherine McCall were high-school sweethearts and in love from first kiss. But time changes people and sometimes the strongest seed of love can only harvest bitterness. Fast forward four years--Katy has a new life far from the one she had with Matt. And she thought it was all worth it. Matt McCall's last four years were full of loss, doubt and sorrow. And now? He's only half the man Katy left behind.

Can love survive in hardened, bitter tainted soil? Or does it eventually die under the coldness of heart-break.

From critically acclaimed author Jas T. Ward, Dead Bound Publishing is proud to present-

Love's Bitter Harvest
Romance-The Ward Way

Love's Bitter Harvest is not your standard nor convention love story. It's a dramatic fiction novel with romantic undertones. The story is written with a disabled main male role who is strong and yet so real the reader forgets he's disabled. The woman is nodamsel in distress but struggling at being who she dreams of being and who she wants to be. Their love is a harsh and a bitter filled one, yet tender and humorous as they deal with their issues. This is not a romance--it is a story we can all identify with and the reader is carried along just to see how it could possibly end well. And amazed that it can.

My next title: Lust- Book Two of the Shadow-Keepers Series

Can a heart that is walled away never to love or trust find its beat in one that is needing someone to save it? And what happens when that salvation is blurred?

McKenzie Miller had never needed anyone. Not since she lost both her parents to a crime of passion at a young age. Shuffled from foster home to foster home, Kenzie finally took control of her own life and lived on the streets.
Now she's an adult and she has a hard-wired survivalist core to never be used or abused again. She's strong and no one will ever hurt her--because no one will ever be let inside of the part of her that can still feel--her heart.

Lana had everything that her parent's money could buy and until they lost it all in the economy crash, the young ballet dancer had a bright future with the San Francisco Ballet Company. Now she struggles to reach for her dream and still survive. Until one night...

Welcome to the world of the Grid. Where heroes and Eaters of souls walk among us. And a war rages with the prize being the existence of mankind, or its loss.
